Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
