The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 presents a large cast of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people make a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
