Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT. Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four early in the session. The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the fence. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the main straight. The seven-time champion ended the session in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
