Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
