The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any prominent honors show draws close, you'll find an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial above others. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
